Across the country, consumer rights attorneys are filing false advertising complaints against manufacturers for making “natural” and “pure” product characterization claims. Posted below are two recent complaints filed in US District Courts in California and New Jersey. We can expect to see many similar complaints filed across the country in 2012. Perhaps, as we suggest in our Essay, it is in the best interest of food manufacturers and retailers to press FDA to issue a definition of these two widely used terms.
